Jonah
Time – 775 to 760 B.C.
The book is concerned with the commission of Jonah to warn the city of Nineveh
(capital of Assyria) to repent and obey God’s commandments so that they might avoid destruction. Jonah is reluctant to preach this message and is therefore swallowed by a great fish. He remains in the belly of the fish for three days. Upon his release, he preaches the message to the people of Nineveh, who believe his message, repent of their sins and are spared by God.
